Lady Lent is a very old Greek tradition. She is like a calendar. We use her to count the weeks until Easter.
How does she look?
Lady Lent looks like a nun.
No mouth: She has no mouth because she does not eat meat and she does not say bad words.
Cross: She wears a cross on her head.
Hands: Her hands are closed for prayer.
7 legs: She has 7 legs. Each leg is one week. Every Saturday, we cut one leg. The last leg is for Holy Saturday!
What does she eat?
She follows a special diet called fasting.
She DOES NOT eat: Meat, cheese, milk, or eggs.
She EATS: Vegetables, fruit, beans, olives, and seafood (like octopus).
What is she made of?

With water, flour, and some salt,
We make her body, it's not hard!
On her head, she wears a cross,
But her mouth is always lost!
She does not eat, she does not speak,
She fasts and prays from week to week.
Seven legs she has to show,
How many weeks until we go...
To Easter day, so bright and fair,
With joy and flowers everywhere!
Every Saturday we say:
"One more leg we cut away!"
