4. Talking portraits: if artworks could speak
Create a Talking Portrait
In this activity, you will bring a famous portrait to life! Your chosen artwork will “speak” and tell us about itself.
Watch the tutorial:
Follow the steps below:
Step 1 – Choose a Portrait
-
Visit Google Arts & Culture: https://artsandculture.google.com/
-
Search for a portrait painting you like.
-
Choose one that clearly shows a person’s face.
Tip: You can search using words like portrait, painting, museum, or the name of an artist.
Step 2 – Download the Image
-
Open the portrait you selected.
-
Take a screenshot or download the image of the artwork.
-
Save it to your device.
Step 3 – Install the App
-
Install ChatterPix Kids on a mobile phone or tablet:
https://www.duckduckmoose.com/educational-iphone-itouch-apps-for-kids/chatterpix-kids/
Step 4 – Create the Talking Portrait
-
Open ChatterPix Kids.
-
Upload the portrait image.
-
Draw a mouth on the face.
-
Tap the record button and record your voice.
Your voice will make the portrait speak!
Step 5 – Write Your Script
Before recording, write 5–6 lines about the portrait.
Read your text while recording so you don’t make mistakes.
Your portrait could talk about:
-
Who they are
-
When they lived
-
Who painted them
-
How they feel in the painting
-
What they think about being in a museum today
Example:
“Hello! I am a woman from the 18th century. I was painted by a famous artist many years ago. People visit the museum every day to look at me. I have been watching visitors for centuries! I wonder what they think when they see my mysterious smile.”
Step 6 – Export Your Video
-
Save your ChatterPix video.
-
Upload it to the class Padlet:
https://padlet.com/iozaf/talking-portraits-crh73s4b5qli251s
Now your portrait can finally speak!
