In this lesson we will explore British culture and traditions, that is the British mentality, traditions, everyday life and in general everything that makes up the culture of Great Britain.
Bear in mind that Great Britain consists of England, Scotland and Wales. Great Britain together with Northern Ireland constitute the United Kingdom (UK for short).
1) Start by watching two short videos. You can watch them again and take notes if you wish:
2) Next visit Symbaloo, an online application which gathers all our bookmarks (favourites) on a desktop with tiles that facilitates access to them.
The link I'm giving you contains my own bookmarks organized in 3 categories, each in a different colour. On the left, on a red background, there are bookmarks related to British culture (English Language & Culture for short). You can select them by clicking on the Symbaloo tiles and each webpage opens in a new tab.
Here's a screenshot:
Visit any pages you want which are related to our topic. I recommend you visit the following pages, you can see them on the left hand side of the Symbaloo page (eg Project Britain, English Heritage, 79 fun UK facts, Visit Britain, British Culture, Quirky British traditions, 32 unusual British traditions, 20 cultural facts about London, British landmarks etc). Browse through the pages and explore them in depth. Of course you can also search for pages of your own choice if you want.
3) Write a paragraph about an event, tradition or cultural element you find interesting from what you've read.
Write your paragraph on Padlet:
Click on the + in the bottom right hand corner to open a text box. You can upload an image if you want. Do not forget to write your name and class at the end of your post.
You can rate your classmates' posts.
