William Shakespeare is considered to be the national poet of Great Britain. He was born in the middle of the 16th century when Queen of England was Elizabeth I. His native place was Stratford-upon-Avon, a few miles North from London. He started writing from a young age and every play he wrote took him about a year and a half to finish. He also wrote about 150 sonnets,that is poems which were similar to ballads.He was an actor too. Very often, he played a role in his plays. He became very famous in his time and he also became the owner of his own theater called The Globe. His plays were divided into Historical, Tragedies and Comedies. The most well known are Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet and The Merchant of Venice.Even nowadays his plays are performed all over the world.
