Μάθημα

The e-class was designed and implemented at the 2nd General Lyceum of Neapolis during the 2024-25 school year as part of the accredited Erasmus+ project (2024-1-EL01-K121-SCH-000209823) under the theme of well-being.

The following sections present a comprehensive teaching proposal consisting of activities for six teaching hours. This lesson, which focuses on Unit 4 of the school textbook "Fast Fashion", is part of the English curriculum for 10th-grade students (A' Lyceum).

The provided material includes a detailed lesson plan, a step-by-step description of the activities to be carried out in the English Language Lab and the ICT Lab, corresponding worksheets, links to online tools, sources, and sample files created by the teacher to support the activities.

The plan uses a student-centered, blended learning approach, combining collaborative learningproject-based learning (PBL), and the flipped classroom model. It encourages active participation, inquiry, and the use of digital tools to explore real-world issues related to environmental sustainability and well-being. Students conduct research, analyze case studies, and develop interactive presentations, promoting critical thinking. The integration of Web 2.0 tools (such as Genial.ly and Wakelet) supports the development of digital literacy and creativity.

In Activities 3 and 4, the flipped classroom technique is used. This allows students to engage with video and reading materials at home and use class time for deeper reflection and discussion.

Connection to the Curriculum:

An interdisciplinary approach has been adopted, integrating key subject areas and competences in alignment with the 21st-century learning framework and the Erasmus+ project’s thematic focus on well-being.

  • English Language (ΕΠΣ-ΞΓ): The scenario aligns with the principles of polygrammatism, aiming to develop students’ communicative competence, critical literacy, and intercultural understanding through the exploration of authentic, real-world topics. Language learning is contextualized within a meaningful theme—Environment and Well-Being—promoting linguistic and socio-cultural awareness.

  • Information and Communication Technologies (ICT): The integration of Web 2.0 tools (e.g., Genial.ly, Wakelet) enhances students’ digital literacy, creativity, and collaborative skills.

  • Environmental Education / Education for Sustainable Development: By addressing the topic of Environment and Well-Being, students are introduced to key environmental and ethical issues related to consumption and sustainability. The lesson fosters environmental awareness and encourages responsible decision-making, in line with the goals of sustainable development education and well-being.

  • Civic and Social Education: The scenario promotes active citizenship by encouraging students to reflect on their roles as consumers and global citizens. Through inquiry and collaborative tasks, they develop empathy, ethical reasoning, and a sense of social responsibility.

LESSON PLAN

This lesson plan provides an engaging, interdisciplinary approach to learning about EU environmental policies and their impact on well-being.

The teaching scenario was designed to combine language learning with environmental education, promoting communicative competence in English and active citizenship. The topic—EU environmental policies and their impact on well-being—was selected for its interdisciplinary relevance and potential to engage students in meaningful real-world issues that directly affect their present and future lives.

The scenario is grounded in inquiry-based and project-based learning. Students work collaboratively to investigate authentic EU policies, develop their digital presentations, and critically reflect on their peers' work. These methods foster higher-order thinking skills, teamwork, creativity, and personal responsibility. Guided learning and peer evaluation are also key elements, helping students remain focused while encouraging autonomy and reflective thinking.

Digital tools such as Genially, Wakelet, and the Wheel of Names enhance student engagement and add significant pedagogical value. They support differentiated learning, enable the integration of multimedia, and help students express their ideas in innovative ways. These tools also allow students to create digital content that is interactive and visually appealing, improving both their ICT skills and their motivation to participate.

The scenario promotes multiple types of learning: exploratory (through research), collaborative (through group work), guided (through structured worksheets), and experiential (through discussion of real-world case studies). In the context of the foreign language classroom, it provides an authentic, task-based environment that encourages learners to use English meaningfully and purposefully, far beyond textbook exercises. Finally, the integration of digital media and current topics contributes to the originality and contemporary relevance of the lesson, making language learning a dynamic and socially conscious process.

Learning Goals

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

  • Understand how the European Union protects the environment and public health.

The teacher displays a presentation titled "Welcome" to introduce the lesson.

Students watch two short videos:

Before watching, the teacher asks students to think about the following questions:

  • Why are these policies important?
  • What are the goals behind these actions?

After the viewing, a whole-class discussion is facilitated by the teacher. Guiding discussion questions include:

  • Which policy do you think impacts your daily life the most?
  • What actions can we take at school or at home to support a greener future?
  • How can young people contribute to the EU’s environmental goals?

The teacher then presents six key EU environmental policies worksheet 1:

and explains how these policies are linked to the students’ well-being and daily lives.

Activity 2 – Assigning Topics for Research
